Check Current Price | Best Choice For Air Purifier and Humidifier

Room Size: 172 sq. ft. | Tank Size: .94 gallons | Mist Type: Cool Ultrasonic

Pros and Cons of the Dyson AM10

Pros
  • Multi-functional as a humidifier, air purifier, and fan
  • Kills 99.9 percent of air borne bacteria
  • Ease of use with remote control
Cons
  • Relatively small water tank
  • More expensive

Our Experience with Dyson AM10

Before we began testing this Dyson product we already had high expectations. Dyson is known to make great devices with the latest technology. The Dyson AM10 humidifier certainly did not disappoint. It is our choice for the best air purifier and humidifier for dry skin.

Starting with the good things that stood out to us about this device. First, the configurability. We were able to set the exact humidity level we wanted to reach. This will ensure our home’s humidity level stays within the optimal 30 to 60 percent range. There is also a sleep timer and options to change modes from humidifier to fan mode. Our other favorite part about this product from Dyson is air purification.

In regard to purification, the AM10 kills 99.9% of pathogens. Pathogens are bacteria that can cause disease. The way Dyson does this is by purifying the tap water before it evaporates. That way the moisture entering your air is as clean as possible. Every breath we took, the air felt fresher even though the windows were closed. For those with allergies, this device should help make breathing easier.

One minor downside we noticed was the water tank. Compared to other humidifiers that may be smaller, the capacity for this device is relatively small. Since we were running the humidifier for multiple hours, we had to refill the water tank daily. In total, we think you get tons of value for the investment with the Dyson AM10 humidifier.

#3. Levoit LV600HH

Room Size: 753 sq. ft. | Tank Size: 1.5 gallons | Mist Type: Warm Or Cool

Pros and Cons of the Levoit LV600HH

Pros
  • Auto adjusting humidity sensor
  • Ease of use with remote control
  • Alternates between warm or cool mist
Cons
  • Challenging to clean

Our Experience with Levoit LV600HH

Of all the humidifiers we have tested, none provide the same value for money spent over the LV600HH from Levoit. That is why we chose the Levoit LV600HH as our best budget humidifier for dry skin.

There are a few things we liked about this device. First, it was great having the option on what type of mist we wanted. With this humidifier you can have both warm or cool mist. That way we can turn on warm mist during the winter and cool mist during the summer. Next, the performance was great compared to other devices we tested in this price range. During our one day test, the LV600HH raised our room’s humidity 10% in just three hours. On top of that, we were able to maintain a high level of humidity for 17 hours on just one water refill. The two lower mist settings performed just as well.

The one bad part about this device is the maintenance. Cleaning it was the most painful part for us even though the manual says it should be simple. When cleaning, we had to clean not just the water tank, but also the base and tube that sends the mist. We had to clean all three items every 2 weeks. Regardless, for the money spent, this humidifier for dry skin provides amazing value.

#4. PureGuardian H7550

Check Current Price | Best Choice For Bedroom

Room Size: 300 sq. ft. | Tank Size: 1.32 gallons | Mist Type: Warm Or Cool

Pros and Cons of the PureGuardian H7550

Pros
  • Alternates as a warm mist and cool mist humidifier
  • Tank protection layer to prevent mold and mildew
  • Deployable reach wands to send mist across room
Cons
  • Challenging to refill water tank

Our Experience with PureGuardian H7550

It’s great to have a humidifier for dry skin that you can use for your whole house, but we want an option for your bedroom, office, or nursery. Portable and convenient, the PureGuardian H7550 is our choice for the best bedroom humidifier for dry skin.

We will cover the good things about the H7550 first. In order for the humidifier to be our bedroom choice it needs to have ultra quiet operation. This device was extremely quiet. To the point that we forgot it was in the room with us. This is due to the ultrasonic cool mist humidifier that produces virtually no noise. Next, we didn’t need to put forth effort taking care of the device. Over the two weeks we tested this humidifier, we didn’t need to do any special maintenance except refill water.

What stood out in terms of negatives was the display light. On the front face, there is a display which shows us what the current humidity was. However, when we tried to sleep with the humidifier on, the light was too bright. Unfortunately, there is no way for us to turn the display light off either. Regardless, this device from PureGuardian was an amazing addition to our bedroom.

#5. Honeywell Home HE360A

Check Current Price | Best Choice For Whole House

Room Size: 4500 sq. ft. | Tank Size: N/A | Mist Type: HVAC

Pros and Cons of the Honeywell Home HE360A

Pros
  • Small compact design
  • Fan-powered humidifier can integrate with HVAC
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Humidity display not included

Our Experience with Honeywell Home HE360A

This product from Honeywell is a great choice for if you want to humidify your entire home. To ensure you have optimal moisture in each room, our choice for the best whole house humidifier is the Honeywell Home HE360A.

The best part about this humidifier is the design. When we had to install the device, it integrated extremely well with our HVAC. We recommend following the manual closely as possible or ask your handyman to install. Another benefit were the results we saw with our skin. Having a humidifier for the whole house left no dry areas in our home. We could tell the difference with the indoor humidity as soon as we stepped inside. Having the moisture spread out left our skin feeling smoother with no dry skin symptoms for our entire testing trial.

In regard to negatives, the Honeywell humidifier does not include a digital display out of the box. This means we were able to closely monitor the humidity closely outside of feeling it. This may cause problems when you want to avoid creating mold at home. We recommend getting a separate digital display to make sure you can monitor humidity levels at all times. Overall, with this whole house humidifier you will see an improvement in your skin as well a decrease in cold and flu symptoms.

How To Choose A Humidifier For Dry Skin

Room Size

When investing in most humidifiers, consider the size of room you plan on using it for, if not a whole house humidifier. The bigger the room the more reach you want. Smaller devices are best for personal use or travel and can only reach 25 to 100 square feet in area. The reach of the device is dependent on the gallon size. Therefore, review the packaging for gallon size and reach to choose an appropriate device for your room size.

Capacity

The size of the humidifiers tank is another important factor for choosing a device. The tank size determines how long your humidifier can run without a water refill. This becomes important when you want to run the device all day or all night. Smaller devices can only run for a few hours while others can run for a few days.

Noise Level

When you invest in a humidifier you expect it to soothe your home. Furthermore, you expect a gradual improvement in your skin. This improvement, however, should be subtle where you forget the humidifier is even there. Just like a fan, a humidifier should be quiet and it should blend into your home. Therefore, you want to invest in a device that is quiet. The newer devices tend to be very quiet where ultrasonic humidifiers are the best, creating almost no noise at all.

Ease Of Use

Humidifiers are expected to improve the moisture content of your home without any significant maintenance from you. This means you want to be able to use a humidifier for a long period of time with no hassle. For example, vaporizer-type humidifiers don’t have a filter versus mist-types. However, mist-types are safer for children’s rooms and less prone to overheating.

Auto-stop is another feature of humidifiers. This is when the device automatically shuts off when there is low water.  This makes it easier for users who don’t want to check on the machine constantly. Most newer humidifiers have the auto shut off feature where the feature is more important for steam-types. It is less important for ultrasonic-type devices. Overall, this feature creates less work no matter which type you invest in.

What Are The Different Types Of Humidifiers?

Warm Mist

Warm mist humidifiers are the conventional type of devices. These types generate steam using heat to vaporize water. Compared to cool mist options, a warm mist humidifier is quicker at humidifying your room. Warm mist devices are great for creating soothing mist, although the noise can be an issue. Noise is created when the water is heated where a bubbling noise will be produced in the process.

Cool Mist

The latest type of humidifier is cool mist. Compared to warm mist options, cool mist types don’t require any heat. There are two subtypes of cool mist humidifiers, ultrasonic and evaporative. Ultrasonic technology uses high frequency vibrations to generate water vapor and this type is the most quiet type of humidifier. These devices don’t have a filter, but will need to be scrubbed with a cleaning brush periodically. Evaporative devices filter water and use a fan to release mist into the air. Compared to an ultrasonic cool mist humidifier, evaporative machines need the filter to be changed on a regular basis.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Can A Humidifier Help My Skin?

To manage relative humidity inside your home and prevent dry skin, investing in an air humidifier is the best solution. A humidifier can take water and disperse into the air in your home. Using the humidifier you can ensure that the humidity level in your surroundings is optimal between the 30 and 60 percent range. This is one of the most effective ways to survive low humidity in the winter and maintain your skin’s moisture barrier.

Is Sleeping With A Humidifier Good For You?

If your sleep surroundings are below 30% relative humidity then running a humidifier can be beneficial. Dry air can harm your skin in addition to drying out your sinuses and throat. To bring the water content back to the optimal range a humidifier can add moisture back into your air. This will help moisten your skin and prevent new fine lines or wrinkles from forming. Also, this can improve the quality of your sleep over night by improving your breathing.

Is A Diffuser Or Humidifier Better?

Functionally, an aroma diffuser and humidifier do different things. A diffuser is only used to add fragrance to the air. While a humidifier is used to add water moisture to the air. Also, a diffuser doesn’t hold nearly the same amount of water as a humidifier. If you want to help avoid dry skin, then a humidifier should be your choice.

How Do I Clean My Humidifier?

Due to the possibility of mold and mildew growth it is essential to clean your humidifier. This is due to the presence of water. Over time water can breed harmful bacteria. In general, follow directions provided by the manufacturer for cleaning. The areas to maintain will be the filter, water tank, and changing out the tap water.

How We Rate Humidifiers

On our site, we test many different skincare related products or devices. However, it is difficult to rank these products without strict criteria. Below are the three main facets we review when considering different products or devices.

  • Efficacy – How well the product achieves its intended purpose?
  • Packaging – How efficiently the product is dispensed and portability? What is the structure of the device?
  • Safety – What is the functionality of the product and what dangers are posed?
